Yesterday piano given antiques valuation of £125k

A piano that was used to play Yesterday by the Beatles for the first time is set to go under the hammer.

Musical Instruments

The piano that Sir Paul McCartney first played Beatles hit Yesterday on has been given an antiques valuation of £125,000.

McCartney thought up the song and went over to singer Alma Cogan's house, where he played the tune on her piano, to see what she thought of the hit.

He played Yesterday on her 1926 mini piano and sung the lyrics: "Scrambled eggs, oh, my baby how I love your legs."

And it is now set to go under the hammer at London's Drury Lane theatre on April 14th after Cogan's sister Sandra decided to put it up for auction.

This is just one of a number of items related to the so-called Fab Four band - who also consisted of John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr - to have been given a recent antiques valuation.

Last year, lyrics to I'm Only Sleeping - handwritten by Lennon - attracted a pre-sales estimate of £350,000.
