A Paul Henry painting has sold for more than its antiques valuation after going under the hammer for €72,000 (£63,364).

The item - which had a previous price guide of up to €60,000 - was sold to an anonymous bidder at an auction in Dublin.

The Bog Road was previously owned by the Toone family - who live in England - and purchased directly from the artist by William Toone in 1938.

According to Adam's Auctioneers director David Britton, there had been plenty of interest in the piece.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that a £100,000 antiques valuation had been placed on a Victorian oil painting created by Leeds-born artist John Atkinson Grimshaw in 1892.

What's more, the item - a landscape of Salthouse Dock in Liverpool - had been purchased for just £100 and displayed on the wall of a couple's home in Northumberland for 50 years.
