Fashion & Vintage

A lock of hair belonging to French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte has been sold in New Zealand for approximately £9,000.

The rarity was picked up by a British bidder in an auction that featured a selection of items related to the figurehead.

Those looking for arms, armour and militaria valuations might be interested to learn that that piece of hair was clipped from Napoleon's head after his death in 1821.

In total, the sale generated a sum of more than £65,000 and saw bidders clamour for a range of rare collectibles.

For instance, a watercolour deathbed sketch of the leader was sold for £10,000 to another buyer from the UK.

The event also saw an illustration of Napoleon's home put up for grabs.

Anyone after unique collectibles might have noted that the largest gold coin in the world was recently sold in Vienna for $4 million (£2.6 million) according to Dorotheum.
