A 14th century King Arthur manuscript has been given an antiques valuation of between £1.5 million and £2 million.

The item - entitled the Rochefoucauld Grail - is set to go under the hammer at Sotheby's in London on December 7th.

It depicts many images of the knights of the round table and a specialist at the auctioneers Dr Timothy Bolton called it a "grand" book, featuring 107 miniatures.

He added: "The scenes often have a riotous energy and often stretch beyond the boundaries of the picture frames, with lofty towers poking through the borders at the top."

What's more, it is believed over 200 cows would have been required to produce the vellum sheets for the three volumes of the manuscript.

Other books to attract a hefty antiques valuation recently included a rare copy of Birds of America, written by John James Audubon, which was given a price guide of up to £6 million.
