Johnny Cash jumpsuit betters antiques valuation

A Johnny Cash jumpsuit has sold at auction for more than its antiques valuation.

A jumpsuit once worn by country singer Johnny Cash has gone under the hammer for $50,000 (£31,883), beating its antiques valuation.

The item - which was sold at an auction on Sunday (December 5th) of memorabilia owned by the Ring of Fire crooner - was made out of blue denim, Reuters reports.

Cash donned the garment for a rehearsal at San Quentin prison and was it also what he was pictured wearing when he was photographed by Jim Marshall waving his middle finger to the lens.

But the product was previously expected to fetch between $3,000 and $5,000 when it was sold at Julien's Auctions.

Darren Julien, president and chief executive officer of the auctioneers, said: "Johnny Cash is a true legend and his collectability spans all continents."

This comes after a film entitled Walk the Line was made in the singer's honour, staring Joaquin Phoenix as Cash and Reese Wither spoon as his second wife June Carter.
