Antiques valuation news: Churchill's dentures go for £16k

The gold teeth had been created to fix a speech impediment.

Dentures worn by former British prime minister Winston Churchill have sold for £16,000 at auction, possibly beating their antiques valuation.

The gold false teeth, which were used by the leader during a number of speeches, were specifically made to deal with his lisp, according to auctioneers Bonham's, Agence France-Presse reports.

Bonham's specialist Lionel Willis told the news provider it is quite "spooky" to think that some of his most inspiring speeches were made over the top of these teeth.

He added: "These particular dentures were designed especially by his dentist to be a loose fix because Churchill had had trouble with his teeth, ever since a child."

This item is not the only piece of Churchill memorabilia to have recently been the subject of auction, as a motor used by the ex-prime minister was recently given an antiques valuation of up to £250,000.

What's more, another set of his teeth fetched £18,000 in July last year.
