Costume Jewellery

In July 2010, at Keys in Aylsham, a very strange item went under the hammer. Expected to realize a maximum price of £5,000 was the partial set of former United Kingdom Prime Minister, Winston Churchill's false teeth. The set of false teeth more then tripled the high estimate when they sold for £15,200. Churchill was born with a natural lisp so wore false teeth to correct this speech defect. The teeth were made by Derek Cudlipp, a dental technician regarded so highly by Churchill that he nominated him for a knighthood. It is thought that the private collector who purchased the teeth owns a number of other pieces of Winston Churchill memorabilia.
