In 2010, the coffin in which Lee Harvey Oswald was originally buried in 1963 was sold at auction. The bidding began at $1,000 eventually climbed far beyond that, selling for $87,000. Oswald, famous in American history for being the main suspect in the John F. Kennedy assasination, was murdered by Jack Ruby, two days after the Kennedy incident in Dallas. His body was exhumed in 1981 following accusations of Oswald having a body double who was buried in the coffin, and that Oswald was in fact in Russia acting as a Soviet spy. The body was found to be Oswald's and he was re-buried in a different coffin, allowing his original coffin to come to auction almost two decades later in 2010. Although a somewhat dark item, it was of direct relevance to one of America's most notorious figures, which may be the reason why it unsurprisingly sold for such a great sum.
