Warhol Appraised at $30 million
May 9, 2011
On May 10th in New York, Sotheby’s will be auctioning off Andy Warhol’s ‘Sixteen Jackies’ where it is expected to reach around $30 million. The piece is iconic, taking two of the most famous aspects of Warhol: a famous image and the repetition of colour. This work is the most famous piece of Jackie O done by Warhol after her husband’s assassination.
The piece is estimated at $20 – 30 million. The piece includes eight unique silkscreen images of Jackie O duplicated to create a series of 16 panels. The piece sold in 1964 for just over $15.5 million. With its reintroduction to the market this week, there is hope that the original price will double.
