Three-strip of stamps has antiques valuation of $710k

February 24, 2011

A three-strip row of stamps has been given an antiques valuation of up to $710,000 (£437,965).

The set - which is due to be sold on Saturday (February 26th) at the Park Lane Hotel in Hong Kong - is part of a stamp auction that has a pre-sale estimate of $6.45 million, the Global Times reports.

Taken from the 1897 Red Revenue Series, the $5 inverted surcharge stamps are expected to set a world record by becoming the most expensive classic Chinese stamp multiple ever sold, the publication noted.

Jeffrey Schneider, the founder of Interasia in Hong Kong, the organiser of this auction, described the level of interest in these products as "breathtaking".

What's more, he stated the majority of the stamps have increased in value by 200 per cent, noting the market is "white hot".

This comes after a collection of Lady Mairi Bury's stamps were once given an antiques valuation of £2.6 million.
