Thieves steal valuable antiques
March 23, 2010
A couple of antique bronze statues - one-of-a-kind pieces that were valued at £4,000 - have been taken from a village shop in Forest Row, Sussex.
The incident occurred at store Jeroen Markies on March 12th at approximately 04:30 GMT and, although the owner noted that the police has been helpful regarding the theft, he does not hold out "much hope" for the recovery of the pieces, the East Grinstead Courier and Observer reports.
"I think the items were stolen to order. They specifically went for these two items and nothing else," Jeroen Markies said.
The statues were of a panther and a dancer and had only been featured in the window display for a matter of days before the robbery.
It comes after the European Fine Art and Antiques Fair in Maastricht experienced a similar event, with a diamond necklace and a ring worth a total of £776,623 being pilfered.
