Sotheby's Values Francis Bacon at 9 Million GBP
June 20, 2011
Sotheby's is holding their Contemporary Art Sale on 29 June in London. One of the biggest highlights of the sale could be the Francis Bacon's 1961 painting Crouching Nude. The estimate is from 7,000,000 - 9,000,000 GBP with hopes that the piece will exceed that price.
The piece shows a portrait of a female nude reclining on a green couch. With this single silhouette, Bacon can make history. This painting is one of twelve paintings on the same theme between 1959 and 1962. With a small amount of these paintings coming to market, Crouching Nude 1961 will fetch a good price. This painting was sold at auction in 2008 with great hope os doing as well this year.
