Princess Margaret's Silver Snuff Box Gift Valued at £1,500
August 24, 2011
On September 28th In New Bond Street London, Bonhams is holding their sale of The Contents of the St Lucian Property of Lord Glenconner. In the sale will be three lots that originally were gifts from Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon, to the late Lord Glenonner. The first lot being auctioned will be a great example of a silver snuff box designed by John Donald in 1976. The small item, only 6.5cm in length, is in the shape of a book with a great etching of the Glenconner home on the cover. As well as that etching, the piece was also engraved with 'to Colin for your 50th birthday with Love from 'crowned' MR'. With an estimate of £1,000-1,500, it is no surprise that this will be a great crowd pleaser during the auction.
Along with the snuff box, there will be a pair of double-sided cufflinks also estimated at £1,000-1,500. And finally there will be a drawing on glass auctioned off as well to complete the trio of presents from Princess Margaret to Lord Glenconner. The 1986 image of Lord Glenconner's house, is estimated to sell at £800-1,200.
