New Old Master Discovered and Appraised in New Orleans

July 27, 2011

On July 23rd at the New Orleans auction house Crescent City Auction Gallery, carrying a pre-sale estimate of $8,000-12,000. The painting of "St. Joseph and the Infant Jesus" shows convincing signs of a 17th Century work of art. Although supports were added in the 19th Century, the painting seems to be genuine and not a fake. The picture is being cataloged as being from the School of Bartolome Esteban Murillo. The results can be seen online at http://www.cresentcityauctiongallery.com.
