Free Art and Antique Valuations Warning
August 17, 2011
We have been contacted numerous times over the last few weeks by customers who have tried out using free online art valuation services. They have asked me to send out an article to warn that they've had bad experiences so far. The free online valuations seem to be a tool to get to know what you have, push consumers to sell, etc... In my view, the main issue is the level of expertise. That was what transpired when I saw the valuations produced by those websites and sent to those customers, that the level of expertise is simply not there. Also it seemed that often items were 'under-quoted', in order then to be bought cheaply. I am not saying one shouldn't use those servioces , but just be cautious. Often when things seem too good to be true, it is because they are too good to be true...
