Collector puts J.D Salinger's toilet up for $1m sale
August 20, 2010
A toilet once owned by acclaimed 20th century author J.D Salinger has been put up for sale online with an asking price of $1 million (£641,000).
The eBay seller - known as The Vault of Kernersville, North Carolina - is providing a certificate of authenticity from the owner of Salinger's house, Joan Littlefield.
Antique valuation seekers might be interested to learn that the toilet is dated from 1962 and is purportedly being sold unclean.
Moreover, the auction site's listing of the item explains: "When he died, his wife inherited all of his manuscripts with plans to eventually release some of them ... who knows how many of these stories were thought up and written while Salinger sat on this throne!"
The late Salinger - considered to be a reclusive figure - is known to millions of readers for his fiction, which includes the acclaimed novel Catcher In The Rye and the Franny and Zooey stories.
