Christie’s Achieve A $7.5 Million Value

Over the centuries Christie’s has seen a real interest in European Decorative arts and their Decorative and Oriental Carpets sales have showed great strength through the year so far. The grand total reached $7,612,875/£4,670,475 after the latest sale. The highlight of the year has been a George III Ormolu-Mounted Pollard Oak, Indian rosewood, amaranth and marquetry commode by Chippendale, Haig & Co. circa 1775. The piece achieved $578,500/£354,908.
Other top sales included A Trumbauer Estate on the Philadelphia Main Line which acquired a total price of $1,803,875/£1,106,672. The top sale was an Italian Giltwood Side Table, circa 1775, which came to the grand total of $116,500/£71,472.
William Strafford, Head of European Furniture, said, “treasures from A Trumbauer Estate … were keenly sought after by a wide range of buyers from all over the world … We look forward to the next collection sale on June 6-A Park Avenue Interior by Mark Hampton.”
