Big price for James Dean watch at auction
May 28, 2010
The Fame Bureau and WDX have hosted an entertainment auction in the City of London, which saw a variety of items from the world of glamour go under the hammer.
Among the items that may interest those with a passion for antique jewellery, James Dean's lucky watch bearing the late actor's initials was up for grabs.
Moreover, according to Professional Jeweller, the timepiece was presented with an estimate of £30,000 to £35,000.
Regarding the sale, the Telegraph quoted James Wilkinson from The Fame Bureau as stating: "Not only did Dean attribute his success to the watch, but it also linked him to his father who gave him the chain for it."
In addition, the actor's insistence on wearing the watch was apparently not appreciated by director Elia Kazan on the set of the film East of Eden.
Mr Wilkinson added that Kazan eventually relented and let Dean wear the timepiece, although he insisted the engraved initials should be covered up.
