Antique valuations: James Bond replica car sold in Ireland
July 14, 2010
A motor reckoned to be a replica of the first James Bond car has been sold at auction, in news that may capture the imagination of anyone after antique valuations.
The Sunbeam Alpine Series II model was picked up for a total figure of €10,633 (about £8,900), the Irish Times reports.
It was secured by an anonymous 44-year-old buyer, who was able to beat the competition and bag the light blue automotive.
Sean Connery drove a version of the model as part of the film Dr No, in which he made his first on-screen appearance.
The event at Kilmurry House near Thomastown saw a selection of country house antiques find new owners.
Having recently sold the building, banker John Casey and his wife Margaret put the items up for grabs and saw more than 95 per cent of lots sell to buyers.
Recently, those with a fondness for classic cars might have noted that Sir Elton John organised the sale of an Audi A1 designed by contemporary British artist Damien Hirst.
It fetched £350,000 at a special charity fundraiser.
