Antique paintings and silver to go under hammer in Tennessee
May 12, 2010
A collection of antique paintings is set to go under the hammer in Knoxville, Tennessee, later this month.
Auction Central News reports that the items - which include pieces from some historic southern homes and families - will be up for bidding at the Cheekwood Botanical Gardens and Museum of Art's sale on May 22nd.
One of the images available is Grigory Gluckmann's Dressing Room, a rendering of three ballerinas in oil paint.
Gluckmann emigrated to Paris in an attempt to escape the Russian Revolution, only to flee the French capital once the German invasion began.
Works by Robert Lougheed, Sterling Strauser and Cornelius Hankins will be also be available to snaffle.
Antique silver in the form of coins and plates will also be going under the hammer in the sale.
"Cheekwood maintains an excellent silver collection, but these are pieces which the museum felt no longer fit in with their collecting focus," company president John Case explained.
Meanwhile, Fontaine's Auction Gallery in Massachusetts will be holding a sale of antique jewellery and paintings later this month.
