Affordable Antiques are Valued at Christie's
July 12, 2011
On Sunday, 31 July, Christie's will be selling a great collection of paintings, furniture, and decorative objects at South Kensington from the house that was featured in the British film Withnail and I (1987). There will be a total of 227 lots with a hopeful total of around £200,000.
Some great highlights include, a painting by Maud Earl (1863-1943) called The Lost Scent estimated at £8,000-12,000 being the most expensive lot up for auction. There are also many items starting at only £100 making this sale one of the most affordable antique auctions Christie's will host. There is a photographic print reproduction of a design for West House in the style of Philip Webb which will be estimated from £100-150. There is also a great example of an Edwardian mahogany tennis racquet estimated at £400-600 as well as a really interesting Victorian mahogany wine cooler estimated at only £1,500-2,500.
